High Waters of the Saint John
At this expanse of the Saint John River at Maugerville, just a bit upriver from the Burton Bridge, is a row of piers stretching across the river. In the past, up until the 1960's, chains were laid across these piers creating a boom that were used to catch logs floating down the Saint John in the spring. This week the rising waters of the Saint John have all but submerged these piers and all that can be seen is the top of a pier where an Inuksuk stands sentinel-like, marking its location amidst the rising waters.

Dangerous Footing
At this time of year the once solid ice along ponds and river shores is fast disintegrating; and I was concerned today for the safety of three White-tailed Deer which I saw quickly moving over the ice near the shore of the Mactaquac Headpond.

Spring Landscape
The red hue of Dogwood branches bestows an impression of warmth to an otherwise cold, spring landscape.

Blue Bottles
Whenever I look out my window, no matter what the weather; I am reminded of blue skies, woodland streams, the blue of a Blue Jays feathers, the blue in the piece work blocks of my grandmother's quilt or the blue in a Black Duck's wing. Memories of other seasons and times; captured within the blue of old bottles on my windowsill.

Around the Bend
The wonderment and beauty of all that is spring may lie just around the corner. In this case looking around the bend of the river may reveal a group of returning ducks or a lone Eagle keeping watch over the river. Soon, Great Blue Heron will be feeding along it banks and Osprey will be soaring high above in search of fish. Later in the season the river will be full of retuning Gaspereau fighting the rapids and falls during their arduous journey upstream, returning to their spawning grounds.

Wildlife Landscape
In the early evening light, this beautiful woodland creature stood by the side of the road and gazed at me and my camera.
