Leaves and their beauty!

Today while walking through the forest; we saw something move among the leaves on the forest floor.  I thought at first it was a big frog, but to my surprise discoverer when I was back home and downloading the pictures that it was a toad!  In late October!
A beautiful tree stump tabletop decorated with maple leaves. What a beautiful setting it was !

Rushing water after rains at the falls

Heavy rains over the weekend filled this brook  with earth soaked water tinged with yellow and the  brook water filled with power came rushing and tumbling down  over this little falls and came crashing down over this woodland dcene.  This was a most beautiful sight , especially as these photoswere taken on a sunny day and the woods were filled with sunlight filtering through the trees.

Our colder overnight temperatures now tell me that it is time to re-pot these geraniums and move them inside so that I may enjoy their blooms all winter long.

poppies with backlighting

Yes, these are traditional red poppies although they appear to be part red and yellow.  the yellow is the backlighting from the sun and the colourful effect it has!

Fencing
in the snow for Friday fences

Fencing
the Snow

I found this snow fencing a few years ago at a farm.
It was used to control or stop the drifting of snow. In this case I think it
kept the driveway to the house free of snow. the snow fence is taken down and
stored away in the spring.snaking along winter
landscapesthe orange-red snow fence
parallels the pasture linecorralling the driving, drifting
snowJust yesterday I saw some newer snow fencing in use, It
looked like the fence was as unstationary as the snow. The fencing didn't look very stable but perhaps it
was doing its job as it was left there.

The Mersereau stream

We don't have snow but we do have white highways due to the salt residue left on the roadways.

Winter, January 2012

I think this steam is saying, "I think I can, I think I can!" as it struggles to close the gap over this open flowing water water in this woodland stream.
good winter driving over and through thus covered bridge, just a few white sprinkles highlight the roadsides when this photo was taken.
there must have been a bumper crop of hay this summer past or there was no room left in the barn as I see a lot of rools of hay still left out in the fields this winter.

The winter scene this January.. love it!

Yesterday, January 2nd, 2012: This is my kind of winter! I love it and do not miss the snow!
The dark sky let loose with a few rice sized pellets of hail just as we left a store and scurried to our car but had the icy scourge had no lasting effect; it just created a minor surprise for us. Following is a favourite quote of mine; "If winter comes can spring be far behind?" ( Percy Bysse Shelley)
