Somewhere Between Edmundston and St. Leonard

After having spent a week in the Montreal area and encountering the busyness of traffic along Quebec's hwy #20 during our return home yesterday; we find its always a welcome pleasure to return to relative quiet of New Brunswick's highways. Here is a scene of open spaces; reflected in both, landscape and highways. These photos were taken while travelling along hwy #2 through the north-western part of our province; somewhere between Edmundston and St. Leonard.

Victoria County Landscape

Seen from the Trans-Canada highway in Victoria County; this landscape of layered colours and shapes illustrates well the pastoral beauty of this region.

These two photos of rock-strewn waterways tell a seasonal tale of summer heat and dryness. Above the North Oromocto River, below the Little Yoho Brook.

Having decided to go to the river before breakfast I was able to capture a glimpse of the mist rising from its surface in the early morning sunlight.

I saw this waterfall several years ago along the Scotch Lake Settlement Road in York County, just a short distance from Bear Island. The small bridge on the road above marks its location.

Covered Bridge at Mill Settlement

An idyllic summer scene in NB, in this case an old covered bridge crossing over the waters of the South Oromocto River at Mill Settlement. Sometime, before 1841, William Scoullar had a lumber mill at Mill Settlement West.

Street Signs - What's in a Name?

The mention of an ancestoral gggrandfather by a viewer led me and my curosity to this beautiful street corner of Scoullar and Neptunus in Oromocto last weekend. The street sign is a nice way I think, to honour the memory of an early shipbuilder in this area. In 1847 William Scoullar built a ship of 800 tons at Oromocto, Sunbury County. The ship's name? The Neptuna.

Also, a William Scoullar was a member of the Provincial Legislature, representing Sunbury County for a number of years.
