An idyllic summer scene in NB, in this case an old covered bridge crossing over the waters of the South Oromocto River at Mill Settlement. Sometime, before 1841, William Scoullar had a lumber mill at Mill Settlement West.

The mention of an ancestoral gggrandfather by a viewer led me and my curosity to this beautiful street corner of Scoullar and Neptunus in Oromocto last weekend. The street sign is a nice way I think, to honour the memory of an early shipbuilder in this area.
In 1847 William Scoullar built a ship of 800 tons at Oromocto, Sunbury County. The ship's name? The Neptuna.
Also, a William Scoullar was a member of the Provincial Legislature, representing Sunbury County for a number of years.

This island was the location of the disasterous, first attempt of settlement by the French in Acadia during the severe winter of 1604-05.
